New Glasgow

Founded by Scottish immigrants, named in honour of Glasgow, Scotland, and shaped by years as the industrial heart of Nova Scotia, New Glasgow has forged itself into the metropolitan hub of the Northumberland Shore. The town's location on the East River made it an ideal launch point for ships that were once built here, a booming industry in days gone by. Today, the East River is the scenic backdrop for numerous multi-use trails that run alongside it.

The town's downtown area is characterized by well-preserved Victorian architecture, housing a mix of boutiques, cafes, and local shops. The iconic Glasgow Square Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater, stands as a cultural hub and the location of the annual Riverfront Jubilee, a popular three day music festival which attracts top Canadian and East Coast musicians.

The town is surrounded by natural beauty, with the East River providing opportunities for outdoor activities such as kayaking and scenic walks along the waterfront trail. Beautiful Melmerby Beach is just a short 20-minute drive outside of town.

The town's strategic location in Pictou County makes it a centre for commerce and services in the region. With everything families could need, including schools, parks, rec programs, community centres and more, New Glasgow offers a high quality of life for everyone who calls it home.
