Lunenburg

Old Town Lunenburg is one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Seventy percent of the original colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries continue to line this fascinating town’s steep and hilly streets with their colourful façades.

Home to the famous Bluenose racing schooner that’s depicted on the Canadian 10 cent coin, Lunenburg’s distinctive waterfront features brightly painted buildings that reflect its seafaring past. Lunenburg is renowned for its connection to the fishing industry, and its fleet of iconic working schooners (including the Bluenose II), adds to the nautical charm.

The town's historic district boasts narrow streets, unique boutiques, art galleries, and an authentic working waterfront. The Lunenburg Academy, a National Historic Site, stands as an architectural gem, while the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic provides a comprehensive look into the region's fishing history. Lunenburg's cultural richness is celebrated through events like the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, showcasing the town's musical heritage. And, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the South Shore, Lunenburg offers opportunities for outdoor activities and scenic drives along the coast.
