The Opportunity

Reporting to the Division Manager, the MLTI is responsible for providing laboratory services for diagnostic purposes and to support clinical care, as well as, academic and research needs that may include, but not limited to:

  • Microbiology Specimen Processing
  • Reading and Interpreting Bacterial Cultures
  • Susceptibility Testing
  • Operation of Instrument Systems, e.g. Bactec, Pheonix, Liaison XL, BD Max, Biofire, GeneXpert
  • Rapid Diagnostic Testing, e.g. direct antigen testing, gram staining
  • Serological/Immunological assays
  • Mycology and Parasitology
  • Quality Control
  • Resource Management
  • Compliance to various standards, e.g. Public Health Reporting Requirements, WHMIS, OHS

Hours of Work

Rotating days, evenings (to 8 pm), weekends & holidays, standby and call-back.

Your Qualifications

  • Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (RT) or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) with appropriate major required.
  • Five (5) years related experience preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience reading/interpreting/reporting human clinical bacterial cultures required
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT).
  • Certified or eligible for certification with CSMLS.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Understands and has a proven ability to apply teambuilding dynamics/techniques.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in problem solving
  • Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to technical expertise and professional development.
  • Candidates must be able to work within a team, independently and to take initiative when required.
  • Competency in other languages an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment health screening with Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness prior to the commencement of employment. Subsequent screening will be required on an annual basis.
