About the Opportunity
The Orthopedic Technician reports to the Health Services Manager and works under the direction of physician and in collaboration with other members of the Health Care team. The Orthopedic Technician provides care to clients with orthopedic problems through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, splints, braces and traction fittings as well as the removal of pins, external fixators, staples and sutures. The Orthopedic Technician applies and removes dressings according to current would care policies and practices. The Orthopedic Technician provides both teaching and emotional support to patients and families. Demonstration/teaching of casting techniques and procedures are provided as required to medical students, residents and nurses. The Orthopedic Technician may be consulted to the Emergency Room or the PACU.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
Orthopedic Technology Program
Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologist preferred.
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
Strong organization and priority setting skills
Detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology as related to Orthopaedics
Knowledge of medical terminology
Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of Orthopedic equipment, supplies and devices
Where there are no qualified applicants for this position, consideration may be given to candidates who do not possess a Diploma in Orthopedic Technology that have completed a program in a relevant healthcare discipline (e.g. LPN, Paramedic, Kinesiology) plus one year recent and related health care experience. The offer is contingent upon successful completion of the in-house Orthopedic Technician training program within eight months of hire.
